The word doula means woman caregiver. This woman is a trained and experienced labor companion who provides the birthing woman, her husband, partner and family continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information before, during and just after childbirth.  She also supports and facilitates communication with the medical staff to make sure the laboring women have the information to make educated decisions during their childbirth.  The doula is their primarily to support the laboring woman or couple providing the emotional support, physical comfort measures such as massage, relaxation, breathwork, touch, body positioning and verbal ques all while nurturing and protecting the woman’s memory of her birth experience and emotional well being.
